The LTO (Linear Tape-Open) Ultrium format is a powerful, scalable, adaptable open tape storage format developed and continuously enhanced by LTO technology providers HP, IBM and Quantum (and their predecessors) to help address the growing demands of data protection, backup, restore and archive applications in the small, medium, midrange and enterprise-class server environments. This ultra-high capacity generation of LTO tape storage products is designed to deliver outstanding performance, capacity and reliability. By combining the advantages of linear multi-channel, bi-directional formats and dual partitioning, the technology enables the Linear Tape File System (LTFS), WORM, encryption, servo technology, data compression, track layout, and error correction features.
